Good article! It breaks my heart to see how many of the comments are about either the definition of intelligence or the definition of inevitability. I like your definition of intelligence as a manifestation of predictive power. As for whether or not something is inevitable, I’m okay with using the word to mean “a natural consequence of continuous improvements in AI.” Interpreting an argument and forming an opinion or deliberately misunderstanding for ideological reasons, are cognitive tasks that take less than a second. I agree with you that there’s no reason why both shouldn’t be automated in five years. I expect that to save us a lot of time.
