However, I’ve heard it suggested by biologist Heather Heying that hormonal mechanisms exist to discourage women from staying with an infertile partner. Male infertility is the most common cause of a couple’s failure to conceive, so it’s reasonable to suppose that a woman’s endocrine system might identify a long term partner as a problem and start rejecting him like a tumor. Of coarse this is an empirical question. Further investigation is warranted.
