Steven Pinker is a cool guy and I’m sure he’d back me up on this: Imagine if guys went around the internet commenting “Pluto’s not a planet,” without any argument or explanation? This would add nothing to the debate and would and make people start to suspect Neil Degrass Tyson had kidnapped you and messed with your brain. How young is “young enough”? How thin is “thin”? Is the attraction of wealth linearly proportional to the dollar amount of a man’s net-worth? Or, does one reach diminishing returns after a certain threshold? If all you have to add is an declarative sentence and an invitation to re-read a large book, people won’t question if you are correct, they will question whether you actually understand what you’re saying.
